Ford is planning to launch a new version of the GT40, which was itself a modern era successor of the 60s racing car.
The thewestsidestory reported, the name of the car has derived from its impressive feature – the 40 inches height of the car. And after a decade, the company is again planning to introduce a technologically advanced version of the GT40.
The new vehicle is fitted with a new, twin-turbo V-6 EcoBoost engine of 3.5 liter capacity. Ford claims that the engine in the heart of the new car is capable of providing more than 600 horsepower. This raises the bar of 550 horsepower supercharged V-8 engine that was deployed in Ford’s previous GT. Ford said that the engine is placed in the middle, behind the seats so as to maintain the weight balance of the vehicle.
However, Ford chose to refrain from designing the vehicle as any of its trendy electric assist hybrid systems that it deployed in the other supercars, such as McLaren P1 and Porsche 918. The composition of the vehicle is a mix of aluminum, which forms mainly its front and rear sub-frames, and carbon fiber, which comprises the bulk of the vehicle.
Ford has designed a stunning look for the successor, which features more dramatic cuts than its predecessor. It aims at highlighting the tight packaging of the EcoBoost V-6 engine by featuring huge gaps in the rear fenders.
Although the company declined from exhibiting the interior of the vehicle in much detail, it commented that it has a steering wheel resembling the F1-style. Ford also said that it plans to initiate production of the new GT earliest by the next year. With the previous version priced at $140,000 and more for the premium versions, it is anticipated that the vehicle will be sold at the upper end of the price scale.
